How we collect, use, and protect personal data on German Immigration.

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data German Immigration ("we", "us", "the site") collects when you visit www.germanimmigration.eu, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / DSGVO) and the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG).

1. Who is responsible (Controller)

The controller responsible for data processing on this site, within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR, is listed in our Impressum.

2. Data we collect

2.1 Server log files

When you visit the site, our hosting provider automatically records standard log data including your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and timestamps. This is technically necessary to deliver the website and is processed under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure, reliable operation). Log data is kept for a maximum of 14 days and then deleted.

2.2 Newsletter (Ghost Members)

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. We use this data solely to send you newsletter emails. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email, after which we delete your subscription record within 30 days.

The newsletter is sent using the email infrastructure provided by Ghost. Email delivery may be processed by Ghost's upstream provider (e.g. Mailgun Technologies, Inc., an EU / US provider). A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place.

2.3 Cookies and similar technologies

We distinguish between strictly necessary cookies (needed for the site to work, e.g. session cookies for logged-in members) and optional cookies (analytics, third-party embeds).

Strictly necessary cookies are set on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Optional cookies, including analytics, are only set after you have given consent via our cookie banner (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and §25(1) TTDSG). You can withdraw consent at any time by clicking the "Cookie settings" link in the footer.

We use CookieYes to manage your consent preferences. CookieYes stores your consent choices in a first-party cookie. For details see the CookieYes privacy policy.

2.4 Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

Only after you consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland) to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as your anonymised IP address (IP anonymisation is enabled), pages viewed, device type, approximate location (city-level), and interactions with the site.

Some data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States. Such transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (Google is certified) and by Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable.

You can revoke your consent at any time via the cookie settings, or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click an affiliate link and later purchase a product or service, we may receive a commission, at no additional cost to you. Clicking such a link may cause the destination provider to set cookies for attribution purposes. We do not receive your personal data; only aggregated click and conversion statistics. The destination provider's own privacy policy applies once you leave our site.

2.6 Advertising

If advertising is displayed on this site in the future (e.g. via Google AdSense or a comparable ad network), this section will be updated with the specific provider, data collected, legal basis, and opt-out options, and advertising cookies will only be set after consent.

3. Third-party services and hosting

The website is hosted via the Ghost content platform (Ghost Foundation, 26 Home Park Road, London, SW19 7HN, United Kingdom). Your visit causes technical data (see 2.1) to be processed by the hosting provider on our behalf under Art. 28 GDPR.

We also use:

  • Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA) for DNS, CDN, and security. Cloudflare processes request metadata (IP, timestamps, user agent). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
  • Google Analytics (see 2.4) — consent-based.
  • CookieYes (CookieYes Limited, 3 Shortlands, London W6 8DA, UK) for consent management. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR (compliance with legal obligation).

4. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR): a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): correction of inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): deletion of your data when the conditions are met.
  • Right to restriction (Art. 18 GDPR).
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR): withdraw any consent you have given, at any time, with effect for the future.
  • Right to lodge a complaint (Art. 77 GDPR) with a supervisory authority. In Germany, each federal state has its own data protection authority. A list is available at bfdi.bund.de.

5. Data retention

  • Server logs: up to 14 days.
  • Newsletter subscriptions: until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days.
  • Analytics data (once you consent): up to 14 months, aggregated after that.
  • Consent records: for the duration required to prove compliance (typically 3 years under §199 BGB).

6. Security

The site is served exclusively over HTTPS using up-to-date TLS encryption. Administrative access uses strong authentication. We review the site's security posture regularly.

7. Children

The site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to this policy

We update this Privacy Policy when our processing practices or the underlying services change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the current version. For material changes that require renewed consent (e.g. a new tracking tool), we will re-prompt via the cookie banner.
